Avian Influenza (Bird Flu)

Recently, the National Zoological Park of India, situated in the capital city, was shut down after the reported deaths of nine water birds from Avian Influenza. There is an increased threat of the spread of the infection from water birds to domestic poultry and India's has rightly started taking the corrective measures in this regard.

Efforts are underway to ensure adequate availability and stock of flu masks and Tamiflu. In addition to these, the Department of Animal Husbandry has set up biosafety laboratories at various locations.
